Dr. Steven C. Dominy is a resident of Gatesville, Texas, where he has served as pastor of First Baptist Church since April 1999. Steve, 45, and his wife, Missy, a high school science teacher, have two children, Clay, a sixth-grade student, and Tessa, a second-grade student.
Steve earned a bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, in May 1990. He earned a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in May 1994. He earned a doctorate of ministry from George W. Truett Theological Seminary in Waco, Texas, in May 2005.
Prior to serving at First Baptist Church in Gatesville, he served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Spearsville, La., from 1995 to 1999.
In program administration, Steve developed a curriculum titled “Great Expectations” to explain God’s expectations for His people. He developed five Sunday School classes for people under age 50. Assessing congregational and community needs, he developed programs for health and well-being, financial management, support group for families with disabled children, and other groups for support and enrichment.
Steve initiated the reorganization of his church’s Wednesday night program, including beginning two Bible study groups. He supervised the renovation of the church facilities of both churches where he has served to better meet the needs of a changing congregation and to bring about a better first impression to visitors.
In missions, Steve has led and served in KidsHeart mission partnership, building program participation from four to 46 members; the Jerusalem Project, a comprehensive ministry in Gatesville; Habitat for Humanity; Angel Food Ministries; and Global Outreach efforts to including a vision trip to Morocco and work with the Fulani people in Niger.
In ministry, he has led men’s Bible studies; developed a Legacy Outfitter’s chapter, a men’s outreach ministry built on a love of the outdoors; and implemented Bible Communities, leading to the formation of five new discipleship and outreach groups in the church.
Active in community endeavors, he is a member of Lion’s Club and Ministerial Alliance.
