FROM THE EDITOR
The scriptures for this year’s Advent book are somewhat different from those of past years. They are designed to call each of us to renewal and preparation for this season of the year. Some of these scriptures may not be as familiar to some of us as the traditional ones we associate with Christmas. A constant theme running throughout these verses is LIGHT. We are called to be light in a dark world. Without God’s help in the constant renewing of our lives, that would be impossible.
A project such as this one cannot be completed without the help of many people. UBC is blessed to have so many fine writers in its congregation. These are people who give of their time and energy to many causes throughout the year, then, at this busy season, they volunteer to contribute to the Advent book. A thank you does not seem adequate, but from the response of the church in past years, we know that readers are grateful to those who write.
Once again, we have called on the skills of Corey Fuller to produce the cover for the Advent book. It fits the theme so perfectly, and he deserves special thanks. Marguerite Guinn has helped in so many ways, enduring multiple phone calls from me. She has done the final work of putting the book together. I’m grateful to Doug Watson and Michael Cappo for their last-minute contributions when people could not write.
Some editing has been necessary for the devotions to fit the one-page length requirement. It is my prayer that these devotions will aid our renewal, spiritual growth, and insight. May we succeed in our attempts to “be light” during this advent season.
